Russian
Live Trap Design Diagram

Specifications for the Russian live
trap designed by Dr. Anvar Kerimov
(Moscow State University), and Drs. Nicolay
Shchipanov and Boris Sheftel
(Severtcov Institute of Ecology and Evolution, Russian Academy of Science). Dashed lines indicate folding. All measurements are in mm
and need not be as precise as presented here. Thin-gauge aluminum can be used
for construction. Parts of the trap are as follows: A) front door (black dot
represents pop rivet -- see (H) below); B) removable rear portion (fold and
then pop rivet on the bottom to hold); C) bottom (this slides into main
compartment); D) J-hook that attaches to treadle with solder; E) treadle; F)
shape of wire that forms the antipredator
"weasel guard"; G) main compartment (+ indicates holes drilled for
wires); and H) lateral view of the trap with door in both the set position
(shaded) and when closed. Note pop rivet on the front door that allows the
"weasel guard" to lock when the door is closed. These diagrams were
prepared by T. Westover.
