Here are a couple of views of the treadle prior to
being placed in the trap. While not the clearest on the image, you can see how
the metal is folded to hold the wire used to prop open the door. Also note that
we used a separate piece of aluminum to extend the length of the treadle. This
was done in an attempt to make the treadle more sensitive to smaller shrews.
Another way we attempted to increase sensitivity was to bend the treadle just
behind the point where the wire passes through. The treadle at the top of this
picture is not yet bent, while the lower one is.
The wire used to prop the door can be bent forward or to the rear. While
setting traps, I was careful to make sure the wire was pushed back far enough
to minimize the weight necessary to make the treadle fall and allow the door to
shut.
